String

As much as the project explores the production of beads and sourcing of materials, it is also interested in the life of personal ornaments once they are made. Part of this is thinking about how they might have been worn or how they might have been attached to other objects. Understanding fibre technology and string production is therefore informative for bead biographies and how different technologies interact through the life of an artefact. The photo gallery documents experiments extracting fibre for string production from nettle, bramble, and sedge.
